Freemasonry in the Movies

The Grand Lodge of British Columbia and Yukon keeps and on-going index about Masonic references in film. After a recent post about Brother’s War, I received a few e-mails asking where one could find more movies about Masonry.

The Grand Lodge of BCY notes:

The appearances of Freemasonry in movies range from the unremarked and irrelevent use of symbols such as the square and compasses on scenery and properties, to the actual enactment of masonic ritual by principal characters. The following list of references is not definitive, nor are all entries confirmed.

To view their masonic movie listings, please see the following link:

What makes the GL of BCY website stand out from any other listing you may find on the web, is that it contains screen captures from many of the movies- video stills, like a photo, of a scene to physically show the reference, rather than writing a paragraph to help you imagine the reference.

They also carry a listing of references in pop culture, games, television, and more.

What’s your favourite movie with a Masonic reference?

Hmm.. tough decision. Not sure if I should pick the National Treasure Trilogy, or The Man Who Would Be King!
